With its pristine ecological environment featuring low light pollution and minimal contamination, the area sees fireflies flitting through the forests at night. In collaboration with local businesses, Sun Moon Lake has launched a nighttime firefly-watching event—the “2015 Sun Moon Lake Starlight Firefly Season.”

Firefly viewing spots are selected based on regional ecological features. Throughout the event, each viewing location offers guided tours upon request. From now until May 31, visitors can come to Sun Moon Lake to join the firefly-watching experience. There’s also a special bike rental discount for those attending the event—if you sign up for any of the firefly tours organized by local associations, you’ll receive a commemorative postcard plus one bike rental coupon (limited quantity, while supplies last). This way, you can ride a bike around Sun Moon Lake during the day and admire fireflies at night. Plus, you can even join in the lucky draw activities as well.
