Worship at Xingtian Temple and enjoy delicious food: Grandma’s traditional rice pudding and pork intestines noodles

Every time I travel abroad or return home, Wisely visits Xingtian Temple to pray, thanking the deities for keeping the trip safe and smooth. After praying, he usually grabs a bite nearby—typically choosing one of the stalls right at the entrance, such as ‘Ah Jun Pork Intestines Noodles / Fish Cakes’ and ‘Ah Mei Rice Pudding / Glass Noodles,’ which are his go-to options. Although Xingtian Temple has changed a bit over time, with fewer crowds outside, the shops haven’t been much affected, and the nostalgic flavors remain unchanged.

This stall, ‘Ah Mei Rice Pudding / Glass Noodles,’ is located at the entrance on Minquan East Road, recognizable by its large sunshade umbrella. The rice pudding and glass noodles here are both delicious—I prefer the vegetarian versions, and I personally like the rice pudding more. It comes with spicy pickled vegetables, which add a nice kick. (Phone: 0915-666-112)

The shop behind, ‘Ah Jun Pork Intestines Noodles / Fish Cakes,’ is where I sometimes go after buying the rice pudding. I’ll order some soup or noodles here to go with it. The owner keeps a cute cat, so I occasionally visit just to take photos of it.

Their glass noodles have a light flavor, but the pork intestines—braised beforehand and served with diced fish balls—are quite tasty. Their homemade chili sauce is the highlight, adding great flavor and pairing well with their fish cakes. On cold days, their fish cakes are especially popular, not only because of the generous portion but also because you can refill your bowl with hot soup, making it very satisfying.
