You can enjoy Malaysian cuisine without boarding a plane. The Tourism Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines, Malaysia Friendship and Trade Centre, and Mandarin Oriental Taipei Taoyuan Airport Hotel have collaborated this month to invite elite chefs from Kuala Lumpur’s five-star Pullman Hotel to Taiwan for the “Malaysia Food Festival.” The event features local specialty dishes such as Muslim banquet-style spiced tomato chicken, spicy seafood delicacies, fresh squid salad, ink squid in sauce, and stir-fried squid, among others.
From May 15 to 31,the “Endless Flavors, A Culinary Journey – Malaysia Food Festival”event will feature menus designed by two guest chefs from Malaysia, showcasing Indian, Portuguese, Peranakan, and seafood influences in their dishes. All servers will be dressed in traditional attire, while the venue will be decorated with kite hangings, batik tablecloths, and live folk music, fully immersing guests in Malaysian culture as if they were truly traveling through Malaysia.
Ahmad Faisal Mohamed, Director of the Malaysian Tourism Office in Taipei, stated that the goal is to let Taiwanese experience the diverse and dynamic side of Malaysia through its food culture. While many people are familiar with Malaysian dishes like satay and laksa, the special flavors introduced at this event include “spiced tomato chicken,” a Muslim festive dish from northern Malaysia typically enjoyed only during Eid al-Fitr or weddings, known for its sweet and spicy taste; spicy and bold fresh squid salad, chili shrimp, coconut milk spicy fish, and ink squid in sauce, which are perfect fusions of local seafood and Chinese culinary styles; as well as Indian-style paratha bread with a flaky texture similar to croissants, served with rich beef curry.
Additionally, Malaysia Airlines will offer some of the most iconic Malaysian dishes on selected flights from now until December for business and first-class passengers, including satay, nasi lemak, Hainanese chicken rice, and Indian curry, along with post-meal drinks like teh tarik or bubble teh tarik.
