Low-Carbon Cycling Tours in Eastern Taiwan – Experience the Island’s Most Pristine Light

To promote cycling and raise awareness about protecting the environment of Hualien and Taitung, the Eastern Coastal National Scenic Area Administration of the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (hereinafter referred to as the East Coast Administration) specially organized the“2015 Protect Hualien and Taitung, I Love Cycling”event, taking visitors deep into indigenous villages to hear moving stories and experience vitality, as well as to enjoy the beauty of Hualien and Taitung’s mountains and sea.

The “2015 Protect Hualien and Taitung, I Love Cycling” event combines cycling with indigenous performing arts such as traditional music and dance... and other tribal art experiences. Visitors can also ride traditional rubber rafts and go white-water rafting on the Xiuguluan River to gain an in-depth understanding of the culture of the indigenous tribes along the east coast. In addition, the East Coast Administration has invited eight celebrities to join the tribal experience trip, including sports broadcasting personality Ding Yuankai known for his passion for the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup, Golden Bell Award-winning travel show host Wu Feng, and Golden Bell Award-winning children's program host Li Xuanrong... hoping that through their introductions, the public can better appreciate the beauty of eastern Taiwan.

The event adopts a “bus + bicycle” dual-transfer approach. The organizers provide bicycles and helmets, with shuttle buses for transportation, allowing all types of travelers to easily engage in low-carbon tribal tourism activities. The event also plans three two-day, one-night travel routes at both high and low price points, ranging from NT$3,800 to NT$4,700. The public can choose their preferred travel route. The first batch of the event departs on May 30 and 31, with a total of eight batches planned by the end of November. Customized itineraries are also available.
