Chen Guojun, Director of the New Taipei City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau, stated that New Taipei City has uniquely beautiful geography, featuring coastlines, suburban mountains, and streams of various sizes, all blending into picturesque scenes. Beyond the beautiful natural environment, the area also has a rich cultural and historical heritage, giving the trails in New Taipei a diverse and multifaceted character.

He emphasized, “We have opted for more natural ecological engineering methods—using local materials, avoiding damage to mountain forests, minimizing artificial facilities—and we’ve engaged volunteer groups to maintain and protect the trails. We aim to present a Leave No Trace approach to trail development, showcasing New Taipei’s green growth and sparking a new trend in tourism.”

Hiking writer Tang Rongli recommends visiting the Yuantong Temple Trail in summer. Located near Zhonghe and close to the city, the trail not only features beautiful mountain ranges and peculiar rocks, but also offers wide views where you can take in the entire Taipei Basin.
