Located in Penghu’s Siyu Township lies a bustling temple, whose basement is a hidden wonderland, like a magical underwater dragon palace—a must-visit photo spot for many travelers in Penghu.

The Dayi Temple is located in Siyu Township, Penghu. Its basement space is a unique wonderland, an underground dragon palace built with coral stone, housing numerous specimens of shells and fish bones. Inside, there is also a pool where many sea turtles swim.

The main deity enshrined at Dayi Temple is Wenheng Shengdi, a scholarly form of Guan Yu. When depicted in a martial form, he is revered as Guan Di Ye. Many stories about Wenheng Shengdi’s divine appearances have been passed down in Zhuvan Village.

It is said that during the Sino-French War, when the French forces fiercely bombarded Penghu, Wenheng Shengdi appeared and kicked away the cannons with his immense foot, averting the attack and keeping Zhuvan Village safe from disaster.

There is also a cute turtle wall near Dayi Temple, a popular photo spot for many travelers. While the turtles in the temple’s basement attract many visitors, there is hope that the temple will release them back to the sea soon, allowing them to enjoy their rightful freedom.
