Stretching 1.6 kilometers, the street is lined with department stores, souvenir shops, cinemas, restaurants, and cafes, bustling with people from morning till night. Day 3: March 25, 2020 (Wednesday)

Cruise arrives in Kagoshima. Arrival time: 13:00 (14:00). Departure time: 22:00 (23:00).

Kagoshima Prefecture is located at the southernmost tip of Kyushu, and hot springs are one of its proud features. There’s a popular saying in Japan: “Drink at three places, soak in three baths.” A typical hot spring routine involves one soak before dinner to wash away the day’s fatigue; one after dinner for a good night’s sleep; and one in the morning to boost energy.

The symbol of Kagoshima is the majestic Sakurajima, which rises behind the main streets. Sakurajima is an active volcano that still erupts on a small scale periodically, and even during non-eruptive periods, volcanic ash may fall. In addition, there are other active volcanoes such as Mount Kirishima on the border between Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures, and Kuchinoerabujima, which was formed by volcanic eruptions. The region boasts many “hot springs” due to its volcanic activity, as well as local specialties like Sakurajima daikon radishes and Sakurajima small oranges, grown using volcanic ash. Life in Kagoshima is closely intertwined with these volcanoes.

You may choose to join optional shore excursions organized by the cruise line at your own expense.
