After a brief warm-up on Sunday, due to radiative cooling, temperatures in some areas are expected to dip below 10°C from the evening of December 9 to the early morning of December 10. The Central Weather Bureau has issued yellow alerts (temperatures below 10°C, cold) for the following counties and cities: There is a probability of temperatures falling below 10°C in Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Yunlin County, Nantou County, and Hualien County. The northeast monsoon is strengthening, bringing increased cloud cover and occasional localized rainfall to northern and eastern parts of the country, while central and southern regions will remain sunny. Northern and northeastern areas will turn cooler, with daytime highs dropping to 19–20°C. Other regions will see little change in temperature, but central and southern areas will experience larger day-night temperature differences.
Starting Friday (December 13) through next Monday (December 16), the northeast monsoon will weaken, with only the eastern half of the country seeing occasional brief showers. Other areas will enjoy clear weather, and temperatures will rise noticeably. Daytime highs in northern and eastern parts will reach 25°C, and even 28–29°C in central and southern regions.
Over the two days of December 9–10, also be mindful of large day-night temperature differences. When using gas water heaters and electric heating appliances, ensure proper indoor ventilation and electrical safety. Be cautious of respiratory and cardiovascular issues caused by early morning and late-night cold, and take extra care to support the elderly, homeless individuals, and vulnerable groups with cold protection measures. Also monitor crops and aquaculture for potential cold damage.
