As the scorching summer heat arrives and the school holidays draw near, why not head to Macau this year to experience the “ICE FUN World” ice sculpture exhibition, where temperatures drop to minus 8 degrees Celsius to challenge your limits of cool. Meanwhile, the Macao Science Center has launched a brand-new animated dome show — Night on the Galactic Railroad, allowing children to learn about astronomy through a short animated story, making their summer homework anything but ordinary.
Asia’s largest ice sculpture exhibition — ICE FUN World, which was successfully held last year, returns for its second edition at Hall F of the Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo. This new ice attraction features over 10,000 blocks of ice carved by 50 ice sculptors, offering visitors an immersive journey through an 18,000-square-meter venue that brings the vibrant world of snow to life. ICE FUN World is open daily from noon to 8:00 p.m. from now until September 16. Tickets are priced at MOP 100 (approximately TWD 390) per person.
In 2003, Japanese digital art master KAGAYA adapted the novel Night on the Galactic Railroad by renowned children’s literature author Kenji Miyazawa into an animated film, which is now being screened at the Macao Science Center. The Galactic Railroad train takes audiences through fields and villages as they admire the starry skies above the galaxy. By combining animation storytelling with astronomical knowledge and constellation myths, this educational and entertaining science-based dome show is perfect for parents and children to enjoy together.
Additionally, the “One Leaf Signals Autumn — A Special Exhibition of Macau’s Historic Meteorological Instruments” at the exhibition center showcases over 20 sets of early meteorological instruments provided by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau. It’s a rare and fascinating exhibit that shouldn’t be missed by both adults and children interested in atmospheric science.
Flights from Taiwan to Macau take just 90 minutes, no visa is required, and Mandarin is widely spoken, making it an ideal holiday destination for family summer trips.
