To promote a low-carbon lifestyle and encourage environmental and water conservation, the New Taipei City Government, the Yu Chi-chung Cultural and Educational Foundation, and the Shuangxi District Office launched the “Shuangxi Train & Boat Low-Carbon Tour” themed Forest Life Day. Participants included New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu, Yu Chi-chung Cultural and Educational Foundation Chairman Yu Fan-ying, Deputy Executive Director Lin Sheng-fen, Council of Agriculture Forestry Bureau Director-General Lee Tao-sheng, and Shuangxi District Chief Chen Shih-ming.

Eric Chu said in his speech that Shuangxi boasts beautiful natural surroundings, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, with no industrial pollution and surrounded by green mountains and clear waters — making it an ideal destination for family leisure trips. He noted that visitors can definitely get more than their money’s worth by sightseeing in Shuangxi on holidays.

Lin Sheng-fen added that Shuangxi not only has beautiful mountains, clean water, and fresh air, but also safe, pesticide-free agricultural products. Starting in March, the city government has been guiding 30 local farmers to plant 30 types of vegetables and fruits on 17 hectares of land. In the future, visitors to Shuangxi can not only enjoy the scenery but also taste fresh, safe, and pesticide-free agricultural products.

During the tree-planting activity, Eric Chu, Yu Fan-ying, and Councilor Yan Shih-hsiung specially signed on bamboo blessing tubes, leaving the message: “The beautiful land of Shuangxi, thriving forever, may Shuangxi remain lush green.” They hoped that participants of the low-carbon tour would plant a tree for themselves while also planting hope for the Earth, contributing together to environmental and water conservation.

The New Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau stated that Shuangxi is a designated water source protection area and also serves as a low-carbon base for the city government’s energy-saving and carbon-reduction initiatives. To strengthen public awareness of water conservation and environmental respect, as the “Shuangxi Train & Boat Low-Carbon Tour” entered its fourth year, the bureau specially collaborated with the Yu Chi-chung Cultural and Educational Foundation to organize a tree-planting event. Participants can choose their preferred tree-planting journey based on their interests.

The city government and the foundation also partnered with enterprises such as China Steel Corporation and CPC Corporation, Taiwan, to hold a “Big Hands Holding Little Hands” joint tree-planting event in July and August. They aim to promote an environmentally friendly, low-carbon lifestyle through concepts like “One person, one tree, protect our water sources.”
