The Merlion Tower, a famous landmark on Singapore’s Sentosa Island, will be demolished on October 21 as the country—replanning its tourism blueprint around Sentosa and Pulau Brani—has decided to remove the 37-meter-tall structure. Travelers who wish to catch one last glimpse of its final splendor should hurry.

The Merlion is a symbol of Singapore, and the 37-meter-tall Merlion Tower, located at the popular tourist destination of Sentosa, was built in 1995. Visitors could purchase tickets to ride up to the top of the Merlion and enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the entire Sentosa Island.

The Sentosa Development Corporation of Singapore stated that to develop tourism on Sentosa, a phased plan has been made for the next thirty years to create five distinctive zones: a vibrant community, the Heart of the Island, the Ridge Line, the Waterfront Zone, and the Beach Zone.

The new planned project is called “The Sound of the Sea,” which will feature a 400-meter-long elevated walkway connecting to the beach, with an investment of 90 million Singapore dollars, approximately 2 billion Taiwan dollars, and is expected to be completed in 2022.
