The world’s longest 575-meter lazy river at the Macao Marriott Hotel – “Transparent Waterway” created by Galaxy Macau

Opened in May, Phase 2 of Galaxy Macau welcomes international five-star hotels including JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton. In addition to the previously well-loved artificial wave pool, the Galaxy Group has added the “Sky Rapids” design. Guests can just lie in the waterway and be taken around the whole circuit, making it a perfect summer family hotel facility.

Macau Galaxy’s “Skywave Oasis” was already quite famous. Phase 1 featured a sky surfing pool, which was once ranked among the world’s 12 iconic pools by travel guides. With the official opening of Phase 2, the new additions include a 575-meter-long “Sky Rapids” and a “Soaring Rapids,” allowing guests to not only experience a lazy-river-like waterway but also enjoy the thrill of a high-speed plunge.

Currently, the total area of the swimming pools at Galaxy’s “Skywave Oasis” exceeds 75,000 square meters. What does 75,000 square meters mean? Rainie, PR from JW Marriott, pointed out that for a family to swim and play in all the facilities, it would take half a day to a full day. Moreover, the Galaxy Group restricts access to only hotel guests, meaning these are exclusive amenities for those staying at Galaxy.

Our reporter tried out the “Sky Rapids.” The 575-meter ride takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Along the way, there are artificial waves, an overhead waterfall, and transparent waterways — making it not too intense for families, with a lifeguard stationed every 5 meters along the route. The “Soaring Rapids” feature three different water channels. Guests entering slides of varying colors will experience different speeds. At the back, there are also a sandy beach, a shallow splash pool, and regular swimming pools for recreation.

Galaxy Macau currently includes five hotels: Galaxy Hotel, Banyan Tree Macau, The Okura Macau, The Ritz-Carlton, Macau, and JW Marriott Macau. Among them, The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott Macau are closest to the new “Sky Rapids.” For travelers seeking reasonable rates while still accessing Skywave Oasis, the more budget-friendly JW Marriott Macau is a top choice.

The JW Marriott Macau boasts 1,015 rooms and suites, all of which are quite spacious. Starting from the hotel lobby, the check-in counters are reflected on mirror-like flooring, giving off a glowing illusion of walking on water — an impressive sight. Above the lobby, there's also an art installation designed by a U.S. designer. As sunlight shifts throughout the day, it refracts onto the floor, creating a dazzling display of colorful lights in the lounge area, adding a spectacular touch.

The standard room types are roomy, featuring sofas, work desks, small bar counters with coffee machines, bidets, and bathrooms made of brown marble. There's even an option to choose between frosted or clear glass, and a reading shelf thoughtfully placed above the bathtub. Though the room design isn't overly striking, in terms of facilities and convenience, it’s certainly a great pick.
