Pingtung County Government Launches “Ping-Tide Station Travel Coupon” – Tickets at NT$40, with Option to Stop and Cycle Along the Way

Taking the train and cycling has become one of the hottest travel trends in recent years. In conjunction with the completion of the elevated railway section between Pingtung and Chaozhou and the new Pingtung Railway Station, Pingtung County Government has plannedthe “Travel, Stations, and Sunshine City” event. In collaboration with Taiwan Railways, it has launched the “Ping-Tide Station Travel Coupon.” A round-trip on the Pingtung–Chaozhou local train now costs just NT$40, and travelers can get off midway to go cycling. The coupon also offers discounts at 38 featured shops along the route.

After the railway was elevated, the stations from Pingtung, Guilai, Linluo, Xishi, Zhutian to Chaozhou have all been newly constructed. The original at-grade railway has been raised to about 5 meters high, offering passengers a more open view and unobstructed scenery of the Pingtung Plain.Through this collaboration between the county government and Taiwan Railways, the public can enjoy the newly elevated railway experience in Pingtung for just NT$40 with the “Ping-Tide Station Travel Coupon.” They can choose any day before the end of this year, December 31st, to take the Pingtung–Chaozhou local train and explore the charm of Pingtung’s railways.

During the train ride, travelers can get off at one station on the way to their destination and another on the return trip. The Department of Tourism and Communication has purchased 200 bicycles and set up rental stations at Guilai, Linluo, Zhutian, and Chaozhou stations. To accommodate family travelers, there are two types of bikes suitable for both adults and children. Bicycle rentals are free for the first half hour and then NT$10 for every subsequent half hour, making it convenient for visitors to explore villages in depth.

The county government has also recommended six routes starting from the six stations, including Pingtung’s “Veterans’ Village Literary Youth Route,” Guilai’s “Pastoral Breeze Route,” Linluo’s “Nature Enthusiast Route,” Xishi’s “Hakka Pilgrimage Route,” Zhutian’s “Dunwu Station Route,” and Chaozhou’s “Old Street Fashion Route.”The county government has partnered with 38 shops along the route. Travelers who present the stub of the “Ping-Tide Station Travel Coupon” at these shops can enjoy discounts or special offers. The “Ping-Tide Station Travel Coupon” is currently available at Taiwan Railways ticket offices in Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Chaozhou stations, with a limited run of 2,000 coupons.
