In your daily life back home, you often receive scam calls and messages. Scammers have countless tricks that evolve constantly, and when you're abroad in an unfamiliar place, you're even more vulnerable. According to About.com,travelers can use three methods to avoid becoming victims of scams—so don’t take the bait, smart traveler!

1. Disguise: Make yourself look like a local
During your trip, try to blend in with the locals as much as possible. If that’s not feasible, at least avoid drawing attention to yourself. Don’t wear touristy souvenir shirts, dress modestly, and leave your jewelry at home. Walk with confidence as if you know exactly where you’re going—this can reduce the chances of scammers approaching you.

3. Stay alert: Be cautious around locals who speak excellent English
Of course, not all locals who speak foreign languages well are scammers—but be wary of those who are fluent and approach you opportunistically. Most of them may not have good intentions. They might invite you to a bar, café, or a cultural tea ceremony class, only to end up charging you tens of thousands of New Taiwan Dollars.
