A blend of grass and vegetables with rivers woven in—Shetou Island’s installation art “Edible Landscape Creation”!

With crisp autumn air, this weekend is the perfect time to visit Shetou Island. On September 19th, the Taipei City Government Department of Public Works’ Bureau of Water Resources is holding“Edible Landscape Creation”at Shetou Island Head Park from 12 noon to 4 pm, inviting the public to gather in groups for fun.

The Bureau of Water Resources stated that the “Edible Landscape Creation” is an installation art piece that incorporates Mayor Ko Wen-je’s “Garden City” concept. It invited local Shetou Island artist Kuo Hung-wen to create a piece themed “Island Surge,” using locally sourced materials. The interwoven grass and vegetables symbolize meandering rivers protecting Shetou Island, and the weaving materials come from old trees in front of Fuan Temple in Shetou Island, which fell during Typhoon Soudelor and left behind dried branches.

The event consists of the following two parts, running simultaneously:

“Edible Landscape Creation”
The task is very simple: after successfully completing game challenges, participants can join in the landscape creation. By simply placing seedling pots in the designated creation area, they can take home 6 seedling pots and also receive a square scarf printed with illustrations by Liu Xiaoniu. Online registration is available atthe event website,and on-site registration will also be accepted starting at 12:30 on the day of the event.

“Island Head Shared Dining Fun”
Starting at 12 noon, no registration is required. On-site, there will be fragrant fried rice and rice noodles, hand-prepared by moms from Shetou Island. After eating, those wanting something cool can enjoy grass jelly and agar. There will also be shared dining tables where participants can bring their own special dishes to share, as well as opportunities for a picnic in Island Head Park to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

In addition, the “Agri-Innovation DIY” booth is also fun, teaching participants how to make handmade grass seed crafts suitable for urban farming. The site also offers local delicacies, games, and even a large photo opportunity with Mayor Ko. The most unique feature is the aerial photography, offering a fresh experience.

Transportation:
1. Take the Tamsui Line of the MRT to Jiantan Station, transfer to the Red 10 bus route of Guanghua Bus, and get off at Taipei College of Maritime Technology Station. It’s about a 3–5 minute walk from there.
2. Take the Tamsui Line of the MRT to Yuanshan Station, transfer to the 215 bus route of Guanghua Bus, and get off at Taipei College of Maritime Technology Station. It’s about a 3–5 minute walk from there.
