Typhoon Dujuan’s impact on Taiwan has caused major flight disruptions. Some passengers reported that they were supposed to take an EVA Air flight from Hong Kong back to Taiwan at 7:10 AM today (September 29), but by noon, they still couldn’t board. There were even EVA passengers who had been waiting at Hong Kong Airport since last night—over 300 people in total—but EVA Air only allowed boarding through standby, which proceeded very slowly, leaving those unable to go home extremely upset, exclaiming, “This is outrageous!”

Netizen Wii said that he and his friends were originally supposed to take the 7:10 AM EVA Air flight from Hong Kong to Taiwan. However, they did not receive any SMS notification about the flight changes. After checking online themselves, they discovered the flight had been canceled, so they hurried to the airport to wait for standby. By the time they arrived at the airport, the EVA counter was already crowded with passengers waiting for standby. Wii himself was already at standby number 273, and including those who had been waiting since yesterday and those seeing them off, there were an estimated 300 people at the scene.

Wii said that during the wait, although EVA ground staff repeatedly explained that they were “coordinating,” they only allowed passengers to board via standby. From 5 AM to noon, it was estimated that only dozens of passengers had been cleared, while over 300 other eager-to-go-home passengers could only wait in front of the counter. Passengers felt that“Why can we only board through standby? Why can’t they increase or add more flights?”In contrast,China Airlines,Cathay Pacific, and other airlines operating the Taiwan–Hong Kong route have all added extra flights to help transport passengers, allowing over 400 passengers to board successfully. Therefore, passengers at the scene are deeply dissatisfied with EVA’s emergency response capability.
