Inner Mongolia Racecourse

The Inner Mongolia Racecourse is located in the northern suburbs of Hohhot and is currently the largest racecourse in Asia, covering an area of 320,000 square meters with a built-up area of 8,329 square meters. The competition grounds include an obstacle equestrian field, a skills performance arena, a standard oval speed race track, and more. Multiple events can be held simultaneously. On the east side of the venue is a structure consisting of a grandstand and spectator stands, stretching 275 meters in length and reaching a maximum height of 36 meters. On its spacious large roof sit four yurt-style buildings— one large and four small.

The domed roofs of the yurts are outlined with blue-and-white cloud patterns, highlighting distinctive ethnic and regional characteristics. The viewing stand can accommodate over 700 VIPs. The racecourse is 750 meters long from east to west and 405 meters wide from north to south, with an oval-shaped track that is 18 meters wide and has a circumference of 2,000 meters. The entire venue can accommodate up to 100,000 spectators. At the Inner Mongolia Racecourse, visitors can enjoy spectacular performances by the Inner Mongolia Equestrian Team, including equestrian gymnastics, mounted swordsmanship, mounted shooting, archery, light cavalry racing, and equestrian acrobatics— all traditional Mongolian sports. The site also includes 12 VIP lounges, 2 gyms, 45 athlete dormitories, meeting rooms, a game hall, and an exhibition hall. It has now become one of the world’s renowned major competition venues. In 1959, it hosted equestrian and polo events for the First National Games, and in 1982, it was the venue for equestrian and camel racing events during the National Minority Games.
