Kuturqi Square

The name “Kuturqi” means “a blessed place” or “a land of good fortune” in the Oroqen language. Construction of Kuturqi Square began in July 2006, covering an area of 153,600 square meters. The square features five relief walls designed in the style of Oroqen “Xianrenzhu” (spiritual column dwellings), as well as nine totem poles carved with patterns of deities such as the snake god, wind god, and eagle god. When viewed from above, the entire site resembles the pattern on the lid of a traditional Oroqen birch bark box. At night, under the glow of lights, the area looks like a bonfire upheld by a rainbow. The creative design vividly showcases the Oroqen people’s indigenous religious beliefs, birch bark culture, and hunting culture, making it an iconic architectural project of the Oroqen ethnic group. On the southwest side of the square stands the Monument to the Victory of Unity and Resistance Against Japan, serving as a historical testament to the solidarity and mutual assistance between the Oroqen people and the soldiers of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army in resisting foreign invaders together.
