Tonghu Grassland is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Tonghu is located within the Tengger Sumu of Alxa Left Banner. It is a unique desert lake basin with distinctive natural landscapes. The Tengger Desert Tourist Area and Inner Mongolia’s Beishaizi Desert Resort are situated here. To the south, it faces Zhongwei County in Ningxia and the world-famous Shapotou across the sand dunes. From Zhongwei County or Shapotou, it is a 31-kilometer drive north via Yingshuiqiao Town, with a blacktop road leading directly to Tonghu. The Tonghu Tourist Area is surrounded by sand dunes, lush woods, and fresh air, and features newly built Mongolian yurts rich in ethnic charm. Along the roads leading to the scenic area are impressive man-made sand control projects. Within the lake area, reeds sway and wild birds play. In the grassland area, you can ride horses, hike, or ride camels to experience the local nomadic culture. You can also travel north by camel into the heart of the desert to see shrub forests, man-made oases, and the magical springs of Qingxi River. The tourist area offers an adventure activity called “Desert Cheetah,” a thrilling dune buggy ride across towering sand waves that provides unmatched excitement. At night, lying on the sand under the open sky, with the desert as your bed and the heavens as your tent, you can gaze at the starry sky and feel the breeze, which is incredibly soothing and refreshing. Admission & Opening Hours: 20 RMB Transportation: The Tonghu Grassland Wetland is actually located at the border between the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is easier to access from Ningxia than from Inner Mongolia. It is 26 kilometers south of Ningning Town in Zhongning County, Zhongwei City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, about 30 kilometers from the Shapotou Tourist Area in Zhongwei City, and 200 kilometers east of Bayanhot Town, the seat of Alxa Left Banner in Alxa League.
