Introduction: Tonghu is located within the Tengger Sumu of Alxa Left Banner, a unique desert lake basin with distinctive natural landscapes. The Tengger Desert Tourist Area and Inner Mongolia’s Beishaizi Desert Resort are situated here. To the south, it faces Zhongwei County in Ningxia and the world-renowned Shapotou across the sand dunes. It is 31 kilometers north from Zhongwei County or Shapotou via Yingshuiqiao Town, with a blacktop road leading directly to Tonghu. The Tonghu Tourist Area is surrounded by sand dunes, dotted with lush woods, and boasts fresh air. The newly built cluster of Mongolian yurts offers a rich ethnic atmosphere. Along the roads leading to the scenic area are impressive man-made sand control projects. In the lake area, reeds sway and wild birds play. In the grassland area, you can ride horses, hike, or take camel rides to experience the local nomadic culture. You can also travel north by camel into the heart of the desert to see shrub forests, man-made oases, and the magical springs of Qingxi River. The tourist area features an adventure project called “Desert Cheetah,” a thrilling dune buggy ride across towering sand waves that offers unmatched excitement. At night, lie on the sand under the open sky, using the desert as your bed and the heavens as your tent, while gazing at the starry sky and feeling the breeze — an experience that is truly serene and unforgettable. Enjoy traditional Mongolian cuisine such as hand-grabbed lamb, mare’s milk wine, and toasting songs, along with delicacies like buttery milk skin, fried rice with cheese. Transportation: The Tonghu Grassland Wetland is actually located at the border between the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is easier to access from Ningxia than from Inner Mongolia. It is 26 kilometers south of Ningning Town, Zhongning County, Zhongwei City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, about 30 kilometers from the Shapotou Tourist Area in Zhongwei City, and 200 kilometers east of Bayanhot Town, the seat of Alxa Left Banner Government.
