Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center is situated on Xiaoguwei Island and its southern shore in Panyu District, southeastern Guangzhou. Covering an area of 17.9 square kilometers, it is designed to house 200,000 university students and has a planned urban population of approximately 350,000. The campus follows a radial ring network layout, with three concentric ring roads of different sizes—inner, middle, and outer—dividing the area into a central leisure zone, residential area, and academic zone. The campus is lush with greenery, peaceful, and quiet, making it perfect for cycling. It's an ideal place to experience youthful energy and relive campus memories.

The planning of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center is divided into four major functional zones: academic areas, residential areas, shared public facilities, and other areas such as preserved villages and cultural-commercial facilities. Academic zones are located between the outer and middle rings, residential areas are situated between the middle and inner rings, and the entire shared public resource zone lies within the inner ring road, along the main central axis, which includes the metro, commercial, financial, and residential land use. The first batch of ten universities to settle in the mega center were: South China Normal University, South China University of Technology, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong University of Technology, Xinghai Conservatory of Music, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Guangzhou University, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and Guangdong Pharmaceutical University.
