The Liangtang Ancestral Hall

The Liangtang Ancestral Hall is a cultural heritage site protected by Guangzhou Municipality.

The Liangtang Ancestral Hall is located in Dalin Ancient Village, Panyu District. Built during the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty (1403–1424), it is the ancestral hall of the eighth-generation ancestors of the Chen clan in Dalin Village. The ancestor was named Liangtang, hence the name of the hall. The structure generally consists of a three-bay layout, covering an area of 1,686 square meters, and is oriented from northeast to southwest. The most distinctive feature of the Liangtang Ancestral Hall is that its outer walls are meticulously built with densely packed oyster shell walls. The walls stand nine meters high, are thick, and comprise at least ten tons of oyster shells, creating an imposing and awe-inspiring sight.

The main entrance of the ancestral hall is spacious, adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, decorated with grey relief carvings, brick carvings, wood carvings, and stone carvings. The plaque above the main gate reads “Liangtang Ancestral Hall,” flanked by the couplet “Legacy of Yingchuan, Traditions of Dalin.”

On November 8, 2010, it was announced as one of the first batch of cultural heritage sites protected by Panyu District.

Dalin Village: Located northwest of Shilou Town, Panyu District, Guangzhou City, beside Guokang Avenue, Dalin Village covers an area of approximately 3 square kilometers. It comprises 9 villager groups and 5 natural sections, with a total population of 2,406. The village has about 1,900 mu of arable land and generates an annual income of around 2.4 million yuan.

Dalin Village is 15 kilometers from downtown Guangzhou and about 3 kilometers from the center of Shilou Town, offering relatively convenient transportation and a superior geographical location. The village committee actively develops the local economy, having established the approximately 180-mu Pushan Industrial Zone to boost collective village income and villagers’ earnings.
