Ancient Town Study Hall

The Ancient Town Study Hall is located in "Jinshi Li" Lane, the former residence of He Zihai, a successful candidate in the imperial examinations during the early Ming Dynasty. It is a traditional "three-bay, two-corridor" style building from the mid-Qing Dynasty. The study hall primarily focused on teaching basic literacy and Confucian thought, and was an important component of the imperial examination education system in feudal society. The Ancient Town Study Hall recreates the scene of a private school and the teacher’s residence from the late Qing and early Republican periods, offering a glimpse into Shawan’s long-standing tradition of valuing education.

Shawan Beicun: Located to the north of the center of Shawan Town and south of Qingluo Road, Shawan Beicun covers an area of approximately 2.4 square kilometers. It consists of 13 villager groups with a total population of over 1,760.

With a history of over 800 years, Shawan Beicun features exquisitely laid out ancient streets and lanes, all paved with granite slabs. The area is home to several provincial-level cultural heritage sites, including the Liugeng Hall, Guangyu Hall, and Chebei Street, which are representative of Lingnan-style ancient architecture.
