Nanshaliang Scenic Area

Nanshaliang is located in the outer extension zone of the Hunshandake Sandy Land in Duolun County, situated to the south of the county town, and has been rated as a National AA-level tourist attraction. The area is dominated by fixed and semi-fixed sand dunes. This sandy belt is adjacent to the county town and surrounds three townships in the southern part of Duolun County.

Established in July 1999 with an investment of 1.61 million yuan, the scenic area covers a total area of 1,500 mu, with a built-up area of 1,500 square meters. The best travel season for visitors is from April 15 to October 15 each year, with an annual reception capacity of up to 40,000 people. It is under the jurisdiction of the Duolun County Tourism Bureau.

The scenic area is located on the No. 1 Sandy Belt (Nanshaliang) to the south of Duolun County Town, just 3 kilometers from the county seat and can be reached by car in less than ten minutes. To the east, it borders the Duojing Highway; to the south lies a stretch of woods and a small river; to the southwest is a vast expanse of natural grassland where a horse riding club is built; to the west are spectacular vertical sand dunes, most over 80 meters high, suitable for sandboarding. A desert lake, where hundreds of birds play, is nestled among these natural sand dunes. To the north is the ancient town of Duolun, where the crowing of roosters and barking of dogs can be heard from one household to another.

The scenic area offers activities such as sandboarding, sand bathing, beach volleyball, beach soccer, boating, camel riding, horse riding, and archery. There are six major attractions: a Neolithic site, a horse riding club, a desert lake, a volcanic cone site, a prime minister’s inspection point, and a sand control project forest. Nanshaliang Scenic Area boasts a uniquely complex natural landscape and an exceptionally superior ecological environment. With undulating green grasslands, well-distributed sandy areas, serene and elegant desert lakes, and clear, meandering streams, coupled with a cool and pleasant climate, the area has become a comprehensive tourist destination primarily focused on desert grassland tourism. Visiting here will surely help you forget your daily worries and troubles and experience the tranquility and peace of returning to nature. The main buildings of the scenic area blend seamlessly with the surrounding natural landscape, predominantly in European architectural style with elements of Mongolian ethnic architecture. The east and west guest rooms feature red bricks, pink tiles, and white lime joints, with each room covering nearly 20 square meters and fully equipped with closed-circuit television, bathrooms, Simmons beds, sofas, and tea tables. The front dining hall is uniquely designed, with a bar counter at the center of the main hall to serve visitors, two small private rooms to the west, and a larger private room to the east. The exterior of the dining hall is walled with evenly sized pine logs, featuring semi-circular windows cut out, and the roof is covered with pink asbestos tiles in a 60-degree pointed style, similar to the guest rooms. The restaurant has a rustic and natural design and can accommodate 200 people dining simultaneously. In front of the main building is a square paved with cement prefabricated blocks. At the center is a circular dance floor with a diameter of 10 meters, suitable for hosting bonfire parties where over a hundred people can dance together. - In May 12, 2000, the Prime Minister visited Duolun to inspect land desertification and sand control efforts, and to formulate a sand prevention and control plan for northern Beijing and Tianjin. The Prime Minister’s inspection point is located within the scenic area. In 2001, the scenic area added a multifunctional hall and purchased more than 30 modular Mongolian yurts, further enhancing its reception capacity.
