Matou Mountain Scenic Area

One of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Lianshan" – "Heavenly Horse Soaring at Dusk" —— Matou Mountain covers an area of 2,300 hectares and is located southeast of Xiaosanjiang Town (a town inhabited by the Zhuang ethnic group). The mountain features rugged rocks jutting out dramatically, resembling galloping steeds. There are also ruins of an ancient fortress and cliff inscriptions from the 11th year of the Xianfeng reign during the Qing Dynasty. The three-meter-square stone carvings record the historical fact that during the late Ming Dynasty and the 24th year of the Kangxi reign, as well as the 4th, 8th, and 9th years of the Xianfeng reign, villagers took refuge on the mountain and fought off bandits, achieving repeated victories.

The mountain boasts steep peaks and rugged cliffs, with competing beauty among its ridges and an overall majestic and spectacular appearance, resembling a heavenly horse about to soar into the clouds. All who see it marvel at the work of nature’s artistry. Towering green pines and swaying emerald bamboo on the mountain present in a myriad of forms, lush and vibrant. Wild azaleas and lilies add bursts of color across the landscape. It is an ideal destination for visitors seeking panoramic views from a high vantage point.

At the foot of Matou Mountain lies a hot spring called Tianxin Hot Spring, where “Tianxin” means “sweetheart,” or literally “sweet to the heart.” The hot spring water maintains a temperature of around 38 degrees Celsius all year round, bubbling with warmth. Rich in sulfur, the water is of high quality. Soaking in the hot spring can soften your skin, relieve fatigue, and promote both physical and mental well-being, leaving travelers feeling refreshed and energized.
