Here lies what can be described as a unique natural landscape in China — the Yin-Yang mountain formation. The Yin formation, known as “Empress Peak,” is said to be the incarnation of Empress Li Tangmei, the birth mother of Emperor Xiaozong of the Ming Dynasty and the Grand Empress Dowager of the Ming. According to historical records and research from the Ming Dynasty, Empress Li Tangmei was a native of Yonghe Town in Lianshan. Evidence of this includes the existing Empress Well and Ming Dynasty cliff carvings. The water from the Empress Well is sweet and is said to have beautifying effects; using it to wash your face or bathe is believed to whiten and soften the skin. “Empress Peak” and its corresponding Yang formation, “Immortal Drunk,” form the core attractions of the Jinzi Mountain Original Ecology Leisure Resort.
This place boasts rare snow resources in the south. Jinzi Mountain sees snowfall every year during winter and early spring. In the depths of winter and early spring, the entire mountain is blanketed in snow.
Here you’ll find well-preserved primeval forest communities and rare wildlife species. The Ancient Tree Valley is filled with towering ancient trees, lush greenery, and endless bamboo groves. The area has an extremely high concentration of negative ions, making it a veritable alpine forest oxygen bar. The resort is home to more than ten types of rare and endangered wild plants such as Alsophila spinulosa and Bretschneidera sinensis, as well as over twenty types of rare and endangered wild animals including pangolins and Chinese giant salamanders, making it a natural treasure trove of biodiversity.
Here, you’ll find brilliant azaleas. Around the time of the Qingming Festival each year, various colors of azaleas bloom competitively across the mountains, vying in beauty and splendor.
The area is rich in the ethnic culture of the Zhuang and Yao peoples. There are folk art performances such as the Small Long Drum Dance, Fire Dragon Dance, Spring Ox Dance, and Fire Lion Explosion, as well as distinctive ethnic architecture such as the stilted houses of the Zhuang and Yao peoples. The ethnic customs are vibrant, with ancient charm still very much alive.
Jinzi Mountain Original Ecology Leisure Resort (also known as the “Little Huashan of Southern Guangdong”) is a key project in our county’s eco-tourism development. This project has rare and distinctive features, with extremely high development value: First are the bizarre rocks, featuring naturally formed Yin-Yang mountain landscapes such as “Jade Maiden Openhearted” and “Golden Boy Drunk,” among which “Jade Maiden Openhearted” is hailed as the “First Beauty Peak of Lingnan”; second is the humanistic and historical resource of the “Grand Ming Empress Dowager from the Lianshan Yao Village,” as Empress Li Tangmei, the birth mother of Emperor Xiaozong of the Ming, was a native of Yonghe Town in Lianshan, with the existing Empress Well and Ming Dynasty cliff carvings (recorded in Volume 13 of the Ming History); third is Jinzi Mountain, the eighth highest peak in Guangdong, with its unique geographical position offering a “view of three provinces from one mountain”; fourth are the rare snow resources, primeval forests, and clean air of the south.
Jinzi Mountain — a mysterious, natural, and beautiful place — looks forward to your visit.
Halfway up Jinzi Mountain, there is a section of heavenly ladder that is over 500 meters long, with more than 2,000 steps and an 80-degree slope, almost vertically hanging off the mountain. After climbing the ladder, you reach the Gateway to Heaven, and passing through it, you enter a fairyland. A crimson stone Gateway to Heaven stands majestically, with purple mist rising and rosy clouds filling the sky, shining brilliantly. A phoenix perches on the stone pillar of the heavenly gate, lingering in this beautiful paradise, reluctant to leave, staying for thousands of years.
Climbing further up, you reach the mountaintop, which resembles heaven, shrouded in misty clouds. The three main peaks tower into the sky, majestic and imposing. Once the clouds part, the magnificent cliffs lie beneath your feet. From the summit, looking out, distant mountains appear elegant and graceful, with rising clouds and ethereal mists, creating an incredibly beautiful scene.
According to the Ming History, Empress Li Tangmei, the birth mother of Emperor Xiaozong of the Ming, was a native of Yonghe Town in Lianshan. Because of the legend of the Empress Mother, Jinzi Mountain also possesses a natural human-shaped mountain landscape known as “Empress Peak,” considered a unique spectacle in China. The human-shaped mountain “Empress Peak” is said to be the incarnation of Empress Li Tangmei, the birth mother of Emperor Xiaozong of the Ming and the Grand Empress Dowager of the Ming, who transformed into a mountain range, forever lying in the embrace of her hometown. Present in the scenic area are the Empress Well and Ming Dynasty cliff carvings as evidence. From the foot of the mountain, you can see that Empress Peak has a complete head with distinct facial features, lifelike in form, with a full and curvaceous, tall and graceful figure.
A series of glass products and facilities at Jinzi Mountain are built at the highest peak, which stands at an elevation of 1,417 meters. The Jinzi Mountain Glass Bridge is arguably the highest-altitude sky bridge in the world, constructed between the two main peaks — Tongtian South Peak and Tongtian North Peak. Below the bridge lies the unfathomable abyss, with sheer cliffs and jagged rocks. There are also glass observation platforms and corridor bridges. The platform spans over 60 square meters, extending out suspended from the mountaintop.
Below the platform are also sheer cliffs, with the distance to the valley floor being at least 600 meters. The observation corridor bridge is built around the peak, suspended over the cliffs, also at a height of over 600 meters from the valley bottom. Jinzi Mountain is famous for its heavenly ladder, and the ladder at the highest peak is made of glass, stretching over 100 meters, connecting to the hiking trails and leading directly to the summit.
Jinzi Mountain boasts a sea of clouds like a fairyland in the clouds. The mountain features overlapping peaks of diverse shapes, renowned for its peculiar pines, bizarre rocks, sea of clouds, bamboo forests, snow, and rime. In spring and autumn, the mountaintop often presents spectacular and ever-changing sea of clouds — sometimes gathering and dispersing dramatically, sometimes lying calmly in resplendent colors. Hence, it is said to be “the heavenly abode of immortals, the earthly palace of the empress.”
“Empress Peak” and its corresponding human-shaped landscape is “Immortal Drunk.” Jinzi Mountain features spring waterfalls and lush trees. Such beautiful scenery attracts not only mortals but also celestial beings. One day, a deity descended from the heavens, leapt down, and arrived at the mountaintop. The deity took out the fine wine bestowed upon him by the Jade Emperor and began to drink joyfully. The fragrance of the flowers tempted the deity to drink more, and before long, he became drunk.
A day in the heavens is a hundred years on earth. The deity slept for five hundred years and awoke to find that the opportunity to return to the heavens had passed. Seeing the beauty and prosperity of the human world, the deity developed worldly desires and decided not to return to the heavens, choosing instead to lie on the mountain and enjoy the view of the human realm. Over a thousand years passed, and the deity gradually merged with the mountain, forming the “Immortal Drunk” landscape.
When visiting Jinzi Mountain and starting your climb from the foot of the mountain, you will pass through a bamboo forest that is distinctly characteristic of the Zhuang people’s bamboo villages. The bamboo is dense, tall, and emerald green, reaching toward the sky. It remains lush all year round, never competing with other flowers. With its slender leaves and sparse nodes, it stands unyielding against snow and wind. In spring, the valley is filled with bamboo shoots.
