Temple of the Heavenly Goddess
The Temple of the Heavenly Goddess is a cultural tourism attraction.
The Temple of the Heavenly Goddess is located on the southern bank of the Central River in Kulun Town, Kulun Banner, east of Kulun No. 1 Middle School. According to records, the Temple of the Auspicious Heavenly Goddess was supervised and built in the 12th year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1655 AD) by the third Jebtsundamba Khutuktu of the Siregetü Kulun Banner, Banzan Danamahama Sibuzagunruk. At that time, when Sibuzagunruk left Tibet and traveled eastward to Eastern Mongolia by order of the Fifth Dalai Lama and the Fourth Panchen Lama, the Fifth Dalai Lama bestowed upon him a portrait of the Auspicious Heavenly Goddess that he himself worshipped. Thereafter, Sibuzagunruk kept it as his personal protective deity. In his later years, he oversaw the construction of the Temple of the Heavenly Goddess, enshrined the image of the Heavenly Goddess in the temple, and established various rituals and offerings. Since then, the Auspicious Heavenly Goddess has become the principal deity of the Siregetü Kulun Banner and is widely revered by the people.
The Auspicious Heavenly Goddess, also known as the Goddess of Fortune or commonly referred to as the Heavenly Goddess. When the abbot of the Temple of the Heavenly Goddess visited the political and religious leader of the Siregetü Kulun Banner, the Jebtsundamba Khutuktu, the latter would rise to greet him, offer him a seat, and serve tea. In addition to having Haliyatu (tributary households) in several natural villages within the banner, the Temple of the Heavenly Goddess also had estate managers surnamed Gao, Ma, Liu, Li, and Luo in the Qinghemen area of Liaoning Province, who paid regular tributes. The current Temple of the Heavenly Goddess consists of a main hall with three rooms, and three rooms each on the eastern and western sides, all featuring flush-gable roof architecture (the scripture hall, white pagoda, and mountain gate hall were all destroyed during the Cultural Revolution). It covers an area of 2,970 square meters, with a building area of 410 square meters, and was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit by the People's Government of Kulun Banner in 1997.
