Lion Ridge

Lion Ridge is situated in the central part of Luhe County. It stretches toward the towns of Da'an and Bawan. The main peak resembles a lion’s head, with sheer cliffs on the northern face and prominent ridges on both sides that look like lion legs. From a distance, it appears as a proud lion raising its head and lying atop the mountain peaks, facing north—thus earning its name. The mountain is formed from granite and sandy shale, generally rising over 400 meters above sea level, with the main peak reaching an elevation of 651 meters. It runs in a northwest–southeast direction. It serves as a significant climatic barrier and is one of the heavy rainfall centers in Luhe County.

The surface layer consists of mountainous red soil. The mid-slopes are mostly covered with patchy subtropical evergreen coniferous and broadleaf mixed forests, spanning a tree-covered area of 7,700 mu. The vegetation is dense, with thick grass and frequent sightings of wild boars, goats, and foxes, as well as birds such as partridges and thrushes. A wide variety of medicinal herbs grow here. On the northwest corner of the main peak, there is a cave that is 7 meters deep, 4 meters wide, and 2 meters high. Inside, peculiar rocks and creeping vines create a setting where one must tread carefully. On the southern gentle slope, massive rocks stand in diverse shapes. On one 50-square-meter rock surface rests an oval stone ball about 30 cubic meters in volume, commonly known as the Gong and Drum Stone—an extraordinary sight. In a western mountain hollow stands a teahouse named “Xinjingding Teahouse,” which features an elegant and serene design. A stone stairway path leads up from north to south and has long been the essential route for villagers from Nanxi and Beixi to reach Da’an Market.
