Shangxian Ancestral Temple is the ancestral hall of the Peng clan and the main temple dedicated to commemorating Peng Zu in the Hailufeng region (including Wuyundong, Luhe, Wuhua, and Zijin). With over a century of history, it was built to honor Peng Zu and is a key municipal-level cultural heritage site. Peng Zu was a renowned figure in ancient China, known as a master of health preservation and the founding ancestor of the Great Peng. “Regarding Peng Zu, we can summarize with sixteen words: he was a real person, with seemingly true deeds, recorded in historical texts, and leaving traces in the world. Throughout Chinese history, Peng Zu was regarded as a great sage in pre-Qin times, a revered immortal in the Han Dynasty, documented by historians, celebrated by poets, written about by scholars, embraced by Taoism, with lasting historic sites, and forever remembered by later generations!” (from Professor Zhu Haoxi’s *Peng Zu*). Throughout the ages, poets and writers have composed verses inspired by his legendary lifespan of over 800 years, his seventy-seven wives, and his fifty-four sons—poems that have been passed down through the ages as the tales of the God of Longevity, Peng Zu. Painters and sculptors have also captured their visions of Peng Zu, with varying artistic merits, but most portray the essence of his spirit.
