Lianxinhu Kangji Building

Lianxinhu Kangji Building is located in Lianxinhu Natural Village, Gaofeng Village, Shuichun Town, Luhe County, Shanwei City, Guangdong Province. It was first built during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty. Lianxinhu Village is a traditional Hakka village featuring a cluster of enclosed earthen houses where families lived together communally. In September 2012, it was listed as part of the “Guangdong Folk Cultural Heritage Rescue Project: Guangdong Ancient Villages.”

The Lianxinhu Kangji Building has a total width of 61.2 meters and a depth of 28.2 meters, covering a construction area of 1,726 square meters. It faces southeast and is oriented northwest, featuring an “upper five, lower five” layout with two side wings and an outer wing, as well as nine courtyards, twenty-four halls, and eighty-six rooms. The structure is made of brick, wood, and tile, and features a front courtyard, a gate tower, a threshing ground, and a pond. This building is designed to facilitate production, daily life, and long-term development, while also providing defensive capabilities.

The Lianxinhu Kangji Building is a walled enclosure built with granite foundations and rammed earth walls. On both sides of the inner courtyard, there are arched circular gates leading to the side wings and the outer wing. Inside the building, there is an ancient well constructed of stone with a round interior and square exterior. The building showcases exquisite wood carvings, stone carvings, and vividly painted murals that reflect the essence of history and culture, leaving behind a precious cultural heritage for future generations.

It is said that the recessed stone plaque inscriptions “Lianxinhu” and “Kangji Building” above the gate were written by Peng Xiaodong, a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations during the Qing Dynasty and a native of Jikang Prefecture.
