Shennong Temple

Shennong Temple is located in Dalu Natural Village, Dalu Committee, Dongkeng Town, Luhe County. It was first built in the 12th year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1639), facing southwest and situated to the northeast. The temple was constructed by Ye Gaobiao, an imperial-appointed Minor Minister of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, to commemorate and worship Shennong, the legendary Emperor of Agriculture and an ancestor of the Chinese nation. With a history of over 370 years, the time-worn Shennong Temple has undergone several renovations, with the most recent reconstruction taking place in 1994.

Due to historical reasons, collective worship activities by both officials and civilians were discontinued after the liberation, and the temple fell into ruins due to years of neglect. The original stone inscriptions, statues, and some historically valuable cultural relics no longer exist.

Shennong Temple features a “three-bay upper and lower with one central courtyard” structure, covering a construction area of 500 square meters. It has a flush-gable roof and a gable-and-hip roof shaped like the Chinese character 人. The main hall enshrines Shennong the Emperor at its center, and the prominent couplet on the gate reads, “Shennong Temple: Boundless Divine Grace, Eternal Imperial Virtue.” The temple serves as a place of worship for devotees from Luhe County and neighboring regions.
