Yaode Building

Yaode Building is located in Xiayuanzi Village, Zhenkou Village Committee, Hetian Town, Luhe County, Guangdong Province. It faces northeast and sits southwest, with a total width of 65.6 meters and a depth of 37.6 meters. The building covers an area of approximately 2,466 square meters, and including the courtyard and pond in front, the total area is 3,385 square meters. According to its genealogy, it was built during the Daoguang to Xianfeng periods of the Qing Dynasty and is a Hakka enclosed house constructed by local imperial examination candidates such as Chen Kangzong. The building has an inner and outer enclosure. The inner enclosure features a double-hall and double-wing-room layout behind its gate tower. Both halls are three bays wide, locally referred to as "upper three lower three." The entrance hall also has double wing rooms. The walls are rammed earth mixed with lime and sand, supported by wooden and stone beams, with gray-tiled, flush-gable roofs. The compound includes large courtyards with smaller ones inside, and large houses enclosing smaller ones. Both the inner and outer wing rooms consist of multiple sets of small quadrangle courtyards, totaling about 60 rooms.

Yaode Hall is one of the larger, uniquely laid out, well-preserved ancient residences in Luhe that harmonizes with its environment. It features exquisite wood carvings on the beams, colorful paintings, and beautiful murals on the walls and ceilings, making it an important reference for studying the region’s traditional residential architecture and local history.
