Outukei Resort is situated in the central part of Amboseli National Park, at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, and is enveloped by groves of acacia and phoenix palm trees. Every guest room offers a widescreen-like view of the towering Kilimanjaro and the vibrant wetlands below, just by opening the door or window. The designers used a significant amount of timber and local stone to pave the pathways through the forested grasslands. The waist-high walls and floors of the guest rooms are paved with cream-colored slate, and visible surfaces throughout the rooms are made of wood, perfectly blending with the surrounding environment. Mornings are the best time to view the mountain, as it often disappears into the clouds by noon.

At Outukei Resort, you can witness the spectacular herds of elephants on the Amboseli plains. These elephants roam freely across the grasslands beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, making it the area’s most iconic and unforgettable sight. In addition, you can also observe the Enkongo Narok swamp near Observation Hill, which is home year-round to black rhinos, hippos, elephants, wildebeest, gazelles, and buffaloes. The oasis near Lake Kioko, located north of Observation Hill, is a birdwatcher’s paradise, featuring flocks of flamingos strolling along the lakeshore, snow-white pelicans, graceful crowned cranes, and Egyptian geese on the grasslands. To the south, around the acacia thickets, you may find herds of giraffes, while the wide-open plains are often dotted with striped zebras.
