The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum is located in St. George’s Park in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape Province. Opened in 1956, it was formerly known as the King George VI Art Gallery and was renamed in 2002 to honor former South African President Nelson Mandela.

This art museum primarily features a collection of South African art, with an emphasis on works from the Eastern Cape Province. In addition, it houses British art, international prints, and Oriental art. The museum's Oriental art collection includes Indian miniatures and Chinese textiles—truly exceptional pieces that are awe-inspiring. Due to the limited exhibition space, the permanent collection is rotated to allow visitors to enjoy a diverse range of artworks. In addition to its permanent displays, the museum also hosts regular temporary and touring exhibitions. The museum is open seven days a week, but is closed on New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Freedom Day, Labour Day, Youth Day, and Christmas Day. It welcomes art enthusiasts from around the world.
