Mountain Zebra National Park

Mountain Zebra National Park is located in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Established in 1937, it covers an area of 284 square kilometers and was created to protect the endangered Cape mountain zebra, making it the best place to see these animals.

In the 1930s, the Cape mountain zebra was at risk of extinction, and an area of 17.12 square kilometers was set aside to protect it. By 1964, the park was home to 25 Cape mountain zebras, and its area continued to expand. The zebra population then grew steadily, and today there are approximately 700 Cape mountain zebras. Other animals have also been introduced into the park to maintain ecological balance. When visiting Mountain Zebra National Park, be sure to look out for six star animals: the aardwolf, black wildebeest, cheetah, Cape mountain zebra, great blue heron, and kori bustard. These are the park’s iconic species and the main highlights.
