The Port of Saldanha is a small bay on the southwestern coast of South Africa, serving as an inland deep-water harbor along the Atlantic Ocean. The port is named after the Portuguese navigator Antonio de Saldanha, who arrived in South Africa in 1503 during the early 16th century.

Owing to its strategic location, the Port of Saldanha once served as an important military base, hosting both the Navy Training Centre and the South African Military Academy. Today, the area's key industries include fishing, aquatic product processing, steel manufacturing, and port transportation. It plays a vital role in the transport of iron ore via the Sishen-Saldanha railway line. In recent years, tourism has also emerged as a fast-growing sector in the Port of Saldanha. With its blue skies, clear waters, pleasant climate, and well-developed recreational facilities, it has become a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. It’s worth noting that the region has a Mediterranean climate with relatively low rainfall.
