Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is located on the lush southern slopes of Table Mountain and is one of the world’s most renowned botanical gardens. Established in 1913, it spans 528 hectares and is dedicated to showcasing and conserving South Africa’s rich and unique plant life. Blessed with a spectacular mountain-and-sea setting and meticulously planned landscaping, visitors strolling through can enjoy the vast beauty of high mountains, the open sea, blue skies, and green expanses, as well as the artistry of small bridges, flowing streams, and winding paths.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden boasts an incredibly diverse collection of plants, the vast majority native to South Africa. It alone houses approximately 9,000 species of flowering plants, accounting for half of the country’s floral diversity. In addition, several themed gardens have been created based on different plant characteristics and types, such as the “Waterwise Garden,” “Useful Plants Garden,” and “South African Fynbos Garden.” Notably, the “Braille Trail” and “Fragrance Garden,” specially designed for the visually impaired, allow blind visitors to experience nature just like anyone else. Stone sculptures from Zimbabwe are also on permanent display here. The greenhouse at the entrance houses a variety of drought-resistant plants collected from Southern Africa, including bulbous plants, succulents (such as cacti), and a few rare species like ancient ferns.
