Introduction The Blue Lagoon seems to have become an icon of Iceland. Many people who visit Iceland choose to soak in its light blue thermal waters. The water of the Blue Lagoon contains numerous chemical and mineral crystals, which Icelandic medical scientists have proven to relieve mental stress and offer other therapeutic benefits. Therefore, various products extracted from the Blue Lagoon have also received recognition.

There is also a power plant here that generates electricity by utilizing seawater that absorbs heat as it passes through underground layers of high-temperature volcanic rock. Entering the Blue Lagoon requires a bit of caution—walk slowly down the sandy path. The water near the changing rooms is around 30 degrees Celsius, but the closer you get to the power plant, the hotter and deeper the water becomes.
