The Pearl Building [Iceland]

Covering an area of 3,700 square meters, the Pearl Building took about three years to complete. It actually resembles the shape of a mushroom. The clever designers made full use of the space between six tanks to create a cylindrical space, which serves as the “stem” of the “mushroom,” with an entrance located on the ground.

This semi-circular glass dome is composed of 1,176 glass panels. Whether bathed in the summer sunlight or the winter moonlight, the building sparkles like a pearl. On the fourth floor of the Pearl Building — the top of the hot water tank — there is a hexagonal observation deck that offers panoramic views of Reykjavík from various angles.

Due to its elevated position and good visibility, the observation deck allows visitors to see both rarely visited volcanoes and the modern cityscape. It is said that in winter, this is also a great spot for viewing the Northern Lights. Additionally, the inner dome of the Pearl Building features nearly a thousand spherical protrusions, designed to give people inside the feeling of being under the starry sky at night. Watch the aurora outside, gaze at the “stars” inside — even during the long polar nights, Icelanders don’t have to feel too lonely. Combining eco-friendly design, breathtaking views, and delicious cuisine, the Pearl Building has been recognized as one of the world’s top ten restaurants.
