Jökulsárlón Lake is Iceland’s most famous and largest glacial lake. It is located in southeastern Iceland, at the southern edge of Vatnajökull Glacier. The ice lagoon first appeared between 1934–35, and due to the extensive melting of Iceland's glaciers, its size has been expanding since the 1970s. It now covers an area of 18 square kilometers and is 200 meters deep, making it Iceland’s second deepest lake.

The formation of this lake is quite unique. There is a gap in the Vatnajökull Glacier here, which forms the Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier. At the base of the glacier lies a lake about 100 meters deep. Massive chunks of ice continuously break off from the glacier and float on the lake. These icebergs, shaped by wind, rain, and currents, form stunning natural ice sculptures. Taking a boat tour on Jökulsárlón Lake is one of the most beautiful experiences — even the amphibious boats are a novelty, as they look like boats but have four large wheels. Passengers board on land, and the boat uses its wheels to drive directly from land into the lake. The lake is scattered with huge floating icebergs. To ensure tourist boats can navigate smoothly among them, three or four small speedboats act as lead vessels, using poles to push aside ice and create clear pathways. Visitors enjoy breathtaking views amid these floating ice formations.

Many films have been shot here, including *Tomb Raider*, *Batman Begins*, and two James Bond films, *Die Another Day* and *The Spy Who Loved Me*. In 1991, the Icelandic government issued a 26 Icelandic króna stamp featuring Jökulsárlón Lake.
