Located at the westernmost point of Europe and one of the world’s largest seabird habitats, Rathlin Island is also renowned for its spectacular fjords. The area around Rathlin Island is among the least populated in Iceland, excluding the inland regions. Life here means seabirds, rugged cliffs and precipices, Arctic foxes and their habitats, as well as scattered small fishing villages along the coast.

Rathlin Island is home to thousands of seabirds. Its coastal cliffs host puffins, northern gannets, guillemots, and other auks, which nest on the cliff faces and forage for food in the sea or surrounding fields. Protecting these seabirds is crucial, as some species here—such as the auks—make up 40% of their global population. Rathlin Island boasts Europe’s largest seabird cliff habitat, stretching 14 kilometers in length and rising 440 meters high. It attracts numerous visitors each year, who come equipped with high-end cameras and video gear to capture these remarkable creatures of nature.
