Attraction Introduction

The birthplace of the famous 18th-century Austrian musical master Mozart. It is located at No. 9 Getreidegasse in Salzburg. This is a golden-yellow six-story building. On January 27, 1756, Mozart was born here and spent his childhood in this house. Mozart was appointed as a court musician at the age of 14. In 1781, he submitted his resignation to the court, moved to Vienna, and thus opened the door to Viennese classical music, until his death on January 5, 1791.

To commemorate him, the site was turned into the Mozart’s Birthplace Museum in 1917. The museum displays the violin, xylophone, and piano that Mozart used during his lifetime, his handwritten scores, letters, and stage play blueprints that he personally designed. A lock of Mozart’s golden hair is also treasured here. In front of the birthplace is Mozart Square, in the center of which stands a full-body bronze statue of Mozart. Mozart’s Birthplace is a must-visit for tourists coming to Salzburg.
