Hohensalzburg Fortress is located in Salzburg, the capital of the Austrian state of Salzburg, situated atop the Festungsberg hill. Its construction began in 1077 and was gradually expanded by successive Prince-Archbishops. The fortress is built in the Central European castle architectural style and was initially used as a defensive stronghold. Later, it also served as an episcopal residence, military barracks, and prison.

Spanning 250 meters in length and 150 meters in width, Hohensalzburg Fortress is one of the largest medieval castles still standing in Europe and is also known as the “Fortress That Was Never Taken.” Perched on a green hill, it gleams like a white pearl. The weathered walls on the exterior reflect its long history, while the interior features thick, sturdy fortifications arranged in a well-organized layout. Several main structures are connected by courtyards, and antique cannons can be spotted here and there, their black muzzles still solemnly watching over the distance as if distant battles were not yet over.
