The Krimml Waterfalls are located in the Hohe Tauern National Park in the central-western part of Salzburg, Austria, on the Krimml River, an upper tributary of the Salzach River. With a height of 380 meters, they are the highest waterfalls in the Austrian Alps and a must-see major waterfall when visiting Austria.

The Krimml Waterfalls are divided into three sections: upper, middle, and lower. At the top lies the Krimml River valley, from which the falls descend in three parts. The upper section has a drop of 140 meters, the middle section 100 meters, and the lower section 140 meters. The highest point of the falls is at an elevation of 1,470 meters above sea level. To allow visitors easier access to Europe’s tallest waterfall, trails leading to the upper section have been specially built, offering the best vantage points to admire the most stunning parts of the falls. To reach the falls, visitors can hike or ride a horse from the nearby village of Krimml. Each year, around 400,000 tourists visit this multi-tiered and segmented waterfall.

The Krimml Waterfalls attract photography enthusiasts year-round. Capturing this magnificent waterfall is no easy feat, and getting a full view of it requires careful angle selection and finding the right spot. With luck, you might even photograph a rainbow hanging over the cascading waters.
