Obertauern
Obertauern is a tourist destination in Austria, located in the southeastern part of Salzburg State. It is a well-known ski resort in Austria, with an altitude ranging from 1,630 to 2,500 meters and a ski season lasting up to 160 days. The area has a long history — Celts began settling here 2,400 years ago — and is currently very popular among skiers.
Obertauern is a favorite spot for skiers, attracting numerous visitors every year, with the only interruption occurring during World War II. In 1948, the first ski lift opened, and over the following decades, ski infrastructure continued to expand. By 1960, Obertauern had become an internationally renowned ski resort. In addition to being a winter hotspot, Obertauern also shines in the summer, with local hiking tours and car races being particularly popular among tourists. Obertauern also has a close connection with The Beatles — in March 1965, the British pop band’s film "Help!" was filmed in Obertauern.
