Knole House

The historically renowned Knole House is located in the town of Sevenoaks, Kent, England, nestled within a 1,000-acre deer park. With a history spanning over 500 years, it is one of England’s most magnificent mansions and is now managed by the National Trust.

Built between 1456 and 1486 by the then-renowned Archbishop of Canterbury, Knole House has passed through royal and aristocratic hands for centuries. Since 1604, it has been the home of the Sackville family. The most famous descendant of the Sackvilles is the writer Vita Sackville-West, who was born and spent her childhood at Knole House. She later created the world-renowned Sissinghurst Castle Garden.

The estate is nicknamed the "Calendar House" because it features 365 rooms, 52 staircases, 14 entrances, and 7 courtyards. Today, 13 of its state rooms remain preserved as they were in the 18th century, leaving all visitors awestruck by the wealth of the Sackvilles. The mansion houses world-famous Stuart-period furniture, significant paintings, and the prototype of the famous Knole Settee.

Virginia Woolf’s novel *Orlando* is set against the backdrop of Knole House. It has also served as a filming location for many movies, including *The Other Boleyn Girl*.
