Sissinghurst Castle Garden is one of the most beautiful and renowned world-class gardens in England, located in Kent in the southeast of the UK. It is owned and managed by the National Trust.

Sissinghurst Castle Garden was created starting in 1932 by British poet, novelist, and gardener Vita Sackville-West (Vita Sackville-West) and her husband, diplomat and writer Harold Nicolson (Harold Nicolson). Its fame comes not only from its uniquely blended style of rationality and romance, but also from the legendary life of its creators.

The garden is divided by yew hedges and walls into the following sections: the Upper Courtyard, the Lower Courtyard, the Rose Garden, the Cottage Garden, the Herb Garden, the Orchard, and the White Garden, each with its own color theme. Outside the Orchard flows a small stream that forms two ponds in the central garden, with rhododendrons and irises planted along the waterways. The Upper Courtyard features a unique purple flower border with hues ranging from light purple to deep violet and blue-violet, as well as silver-leafed plants. Flowers here include allium, clematis, cleome, delphinium, iris, lupine, dahlia, verbena, and grape hyacinth. The Cottage Garden showcases bold reds, yellows, and oranges, with sunflowers, lilies, irises, and trumpet vines. The Herb Garden grows a variety of edible herbs such as sage, rosemary, borage, clary sage, and lavender.

In 1967, the National Trust took over Sissinghurst Castle Garden and opened it to visitors year-round. After assuming management, the organization launched an ongoing renovation plan: reinforcing walls, repairing roofs, leveling pathways, and restoring lawns worn down by heavy foot traffic. The garden’s plants were catalogued, aging ones replaced, and new species added. Yet throughout, the principles of Vita, the garden’s founder — soft and subtle tones, brilliant yet harmonious landscapes — have been consistently upheld.
