Rochester is a town in Kent, England, located near the River Medway, about 48 kilometers from London. The town was once a favorite of Charles Dickens, with several of his novels based here. Today, it is a bustling small town.

Rochester boasts many important historic buildings, the most notable being the Guildhall, the Corn Exchange, and Rochester Cathedral. Some structures in the town center date back to the 18th or 14th centuries, and there are also many old buildings associated with Charles Dickens. Rochester Castle on the eastern bank of the River Medway is the oldest, being one of the best-preserved medieval castle ruins in Britain. In Dickens World, you can encounter characters from *Great Expectations*, while the Guildhall Museum not only offers insights into the town’s history but also features short films related to Charles Dickens in the Dickens Discovery Gallery. The annual Dickens Festival held every June is also a unique event not to be missed.
