Bergen is located in the southwest of Norway, right in the middle of the “Seven Mountains,” serving as the unofficial capital of Western Norway and the country’s gateway to the world. As the second-largest city in Norway, Bergen has become one of Europe’s largest cruise ports due to its fjord geography, which is ideal for handling large vessels.

The oldest part of Bergen is Bryggen, situated on the Vågen Bay in the north. It is an old wharf district filled with many historic wooden houses, mostly built in the early 18th century, and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. St. Mary’s Church is Bergen’s oldest building, with parts constructed as early as 1130. Two other churches, Bergen Cathedral and the Church of the Cross, are also medieval structures. Bergenhus Fortress features several interesting buildings, including the famous Håkon’s Hall, built in 1260, and the Rosenkrantz Tower, built in 1560. A major tourist attraction in the city is the Bergen Fish Market, located by the bay and bustling at all times. Due to its large scale, the fish market has become a social hub for locals and a must-visit destination for tourists.
