Basel Minster

Basel Minster is located in the well-known Swiss city of Basel and has become one of the city’s most famous tourist attractions and religious landmarks. It has been listed as part of Switzerland’s national heritage and stands as Basel’s most prominent landmark.

Originally, Basel Minster was a Catholic cathedral, but today it belongs to the Protestant Reformed Church. The church was constructed between 1019 and 1500, blending Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. In 1421, it was expanded by Ulrich von Ensingen, the architect of the bell towers at Ulm Minster and Strasbourg Cathedral, giving it its current grand form. This red sandstone structure features colorful glazed tiles, slender twin-towered spires, and a Latin cross-shaped main roof that spans the entire building. Majestic and spectacular, it is the most beautiful scenic highlight of the ancient city of Basel, attracting numerous religious tourists.
